Type a forward slash (`/`) followed by a command to execute it. When you begin typing `/`, a list of available commands appears. You can scroll through suggestions or continue typing to filter results. > [!WARNING] > Slash commands may vary depending on your workspace configuration and installed apps. ## Room management commands | Command | Description | Permission required | | --- | --- | --- | | `/create <channelName>` | Create a new channel. | `create-c`, `create-p` | | `/archive <#roomName>` | Archive a room. | `archive-room` | | `/unarchive <#roomName>` | Unarchive a room. | `archive-room` | | `/topic <message>` | Set a new topic for the current room. | `edit-room` | | `/join <#roomName>` | Join a room. | `view-c-room` | | `/part` or `/leave` | Leave the current room. | `leave-c`, `leave-p` | | `/hide` | Hide the current room from your sidebar. | — | ## User management commands | Command | Description | Permission required | | --- | --- | --- | | `/invite <@username>` | Add a user to the current room. If the user can't be added, a message that only you can see explains why. If the username doesn't exist, the message is **No user exists by the name of @username.** If the user is banned from the room, the message is **User is banned from this room**. If an app prevents the user from joining, the message shows the reason the app gives. | `add-user-to-joined-room` | | `/invite-all-from <#roomName>` | Add all users from another room to the current room. | `add-user-to-joined-room`, `add-user-to-any-c-room`, `add-user-to-any-p-room` | | `/invite-all-to <#roomName>` | Add all users from the current room to another room. | `add-user-to-joined-room` | | `/kick <@username>` | Remove a user from the current room. | `remove-user` | | `/mute <@username>` | Prevent a user from sending messages in the room. | `mute-user` | | `/unmute <@username>` | Allow a muted user to send messages again. | `mute-user` | ## Direct messaging & status | Command | Description | Permission required | | --- | --- | --- | | `/msg <@username>` | Send a direct message ([DM](/v1/docs/direct-messages)) to a user. | `create-d` | | `/status <statusText>` | Update your [user status](/v1/docs/user-status) message. | — | ## Utility commands | Command | Description | Permission required | | --- | --- | --- | | `/help` | Display keyboard shortcuts. | — | ## Fun commands | Command | Output | | --- | --- | | `/shrug <message>` | Appends `¯\_(ツ)_/¯` | | `/tableflip <message>` | Appends `(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻` | | `/unflip <message>` | Appends `┬─┬ ノ( ゜-゜ノ)` | | `/lennyface <message>` | Appends `( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)` | | `/gimme <message>` | Prepends `༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ` | ## Permissions Some slash commands require specific permissions. If you cannot execute a command, contact your workspace administrator. If you run a command without the permission it requires, Rocket.Chat refuses the command and doesn't carry out the action. Commands added by apps can also require a permission. If you don't have the permission an app command requires, the command doesn't appear in the list of available commands, and Rocket.Chat doesn't run it if you type it in full. Administrators can configure permissions in **Manage** → **Workspace** → **Permissions**. ## For developers Apps can register custom slash commands. To retrieve all available slash commands programmatically, see [List Slash Commands](https://developer.rocket.chat/apidocs/list-slash-commands). The List Slash Commands endpoint returns the same core commands for every user, including commands that need a permission you don't have. If you run one of these commands through [Execute a Slash Command](https://developer.rocket.chat/apidocs/execute-a-slash-command) without the required permission, the request returns a `403` error and the command doesn't run.
