# Custom Domain for Your Cloud-Hosted Workspace

By default, a Rocket.Chat cloud-hosted workspace uses a `rocket.chat` URL, such as: `your-workspace.rocket.chat`

You can configure a custom domain, such as `chat.example.com`, and use it to access your workspace.

> You must own the domain and have permission to manage its DNS records.

## Configure a custom domain

1. Sign in to your [Rocket.Chat Cloud account](https://cloud.rocket.chat/).
2. Select **Workspaces**, then select the workspace you want to configure.
3. Next to the workspace’s current URL, select **Edit** to open the **DNS Settings** panel.

4. Under **Use default URL**, you can see the workspace’s current `rocket.chat` URL.

5. Select **Use custom domain**.
6. In **Set new domain**, enter the domain you want to use to access the workspace, for example, `chat.example.com`. Enter only the domain. Do not include `https://` or a path.

7. Under **Create CNAME record**, copy the displayed Rocket.Chat URL. You will use this value as the target of your CNAME record.

8. Sign in to the service that manages the DNS records for your domain. This may be your domain registrar or a separate DNS provider, such as Cloudflare.
9. Create a CNAME record using the following values:

| Setting | Value |
| --- | --- |
| **Type** | `CNAME` |
| **Name or host** | The subdomain you entered, such as `chat` |
| **Target or value** | The Rocket.Chat URL copied from the **DNS Settings** panel |
| **TTL** | Use your DNS provider’s default value |
10. Return to the **DNS Settings** panel in Rocket.Chat Cloud and select **Save**.

Your custom domain shows a pending status while Rocket.Chat verifies the DNS configuration. DNS changes can take up to 24 hours to propagate. After verification succeeds, Rocket.Chat Cloud sends you a confirmation email, and you can access the workspace through the custom domain.

## Use the default Rocket.Chat URL

The **Use default URL** option displays the original workspace URL assigned by Rocket.Chat, such as `your-workspace.rocket.chat`.

To stop using the custom domain and return to this URL:

1. Open the workspace’s **DNS Settings**.
2. Select **Use default URL**.
3. Select **Save**.
