# Fair Use Allowance FAQ

Rocket.Chat understands that organizations may temporarily exceed their licensed seat limits during periods of growth. To help ensure uninterrupted service, a **Fair Use Allowance** may be applied in certain cases.

****What is the Fair Use Allowance?****

The Fair Use Allowance is a **temporary exception** that allows your workspace to exceed its licensed user limit without service interruption.

It is intended to support **short-term increases in usage**, not long-term growth.

****How does the Fair Use Allowance work?****

When your workspace exceeds its user limit:

- **Notification:** Administrators are notified via a banner and a message on the workspace info page.
- **Next steps:** You should either:

If needed, contact your Rocket.Chat representative for guidance.

  - Add additional seats

****When is the Fair Use Allowance granted?****

The Fair Use Allowance is granted **at Rocket.Chat’s discretion** and is designed to handle **temporary spikes in user count**.
