The Rocket.Chat desktop app provides a centralized menu for managing downloads and configuring app behavior.

To access it, click the three-dot icon at the bottom of the left sidebar. It opens up the the Customize and control app menu. From here, you can navigate to access downloads or configure settings.

Access downloaded files

The desktop app maintains a record of all files downloaded across your connected workspaces. To access downloads in the desktop app,

  • Click the three-dot menu at the bottom of the left sidebar.

  • Select Downloads.

All downloaded files are listed here, and you can search or filter the list using the following options:

  • Server: The workspace from which the file was downloaded.

  • Type: The file category: Images, Videos, Audio, or Text.

  • Status: Whether the download is paused or cancelled.

For each file on the list, you can copy link, show in folder, or remove from list.

Configure desktop app settings

To open the settings panel, click the three-dot icon at the bottom of the sidebar and select Settings. Settings are organized into two tabs: General and Certificates.

General settings

The General tab controls the core behavior and appearance of the desktop app.

Send error reports to the developers to help improve the app. If you installed the app from the Mac App store, this option is disabled and errors are reported through the Mac App Store report process.

Toggle Dock Bounce on alert

Bounce the app icon in the dock to draw your attention when new alerts arrive.

Hardware Acceleration

Enables the use of hardware acceleration when available. The app will reload when it detects a change.

Open Video Chat in Application Window

For security concerns, video chats open in your browser by default. Enable this option to open video chats directly within the app window instead. If you installed the app from the Mac App store, this option is disabled.

Remember video call window position

Save and restore the size and position of video call windows between sessions, so they reopen exactly as you left them.

Transparent window effect

Enable the native vibrancy and transparency effect for the desktop app window. The app will automatically restart to apply your changes when this option is enabled or disabled.

Tray Icon

Enable the tray icon for the desktop app to control how the application behaves when you close it.

When enabled, closing the app does not fully quit it but continues running in the background and is hidden in the system tray. You can reopen the app at any time from the tray icon.

When disabled, closing the app will completely quit Rocket.Chat, and it will no longer run in the background.

  • On Windows, the tray icon is located in the notification area at the bottom-right corner of your taskbar.

  • On macOS, the icon appears in the menu bar at the top-right corner of your screen.

Choose the color theme for your desktop app. The available options are:

  • Follow system: Automatically matches your app’s theme to your device’s system settings.

  • Light: Uses a light color scheme.

  • Dark: Uses a dark color scheme.

  • System Default: Uses your device’s default browser setting.

  • Google Chrome

  • Safari

Outlook Calender Sync Interval

Set how frequently (in minutes) Outlook syncs calendar events.

Certificate settings

The Certificates tab shows how the desktop app has handled invalid SSL/TLS certificates encountered when connecting to servers or loading workspace content. When the app encounters an invalid certificate (for example, self-signed or expired), it prompts you to trust or reject it. Your choice is recorded in this tab for later review or modification. You can remove a domain from either list, and the app will prompt you again the next time it encounters that domain's certificate.

  • Trusted Certificates: Domains with invalid certificates that you chose to trust. The app will connect to these domains without further warnings.

  • Not Trusted Certificates: Domains with invalid certificates that you chose not to trust. The app will block connections to these domains.

Valid certificates are accepted automatically and do not appear here. This tab only tracks decisions made for certificates flagged as invalid.
