Register Your Workspace

Prev Next

To access Rocket.Chat's cloud services, all workspaces must be registered on the Rocket.Chat Cloud. Registration ensures your workspace stays within the defined support window and enables access to essential services.

This guide provides step-by-step instructions on registering different types of workspaces (e.g., self-managed, air-gapped, or cloud-hosted) and how to re-register if needed.

If you don’t already have a Rocket.Chat Cloud account, follow the steps in Create Your New Cloud Account guide before proceeding.

Register your self-managed workspace

If you're using a self-managed deployment of Rocket.Chat, registration is a mandatory step in the setup wizard. This links your workspace to the Rocket.Chat Cloud and unlocks access to cloud services such as push notifications, marketplace apps, and more.

You can register your workspace using one of the following methods:

  1. Via email – Suitable for most standard setups.

  2. Using a token – Recommended for advanced or offline scenarios, such as when provided by our sales or support team.

If your workspace becomes unregistered due to migration, license expiration, or network issues, re-registration can be done anytime using either method.

Once unregistered, a Register Workspace button will appear under Administration > Workspace, making re-registration accessible.

Registering via email

To register your self-managed workspace using your Rocket.Chat Cloud email:

  1. Go to Administration > Workspace

  2. Click Register Workspace.

    1. Note: This button won’t be visible for air-gapped deployments.

  3. Enter your Rocket.Chat Cloud account email to link your workspace.

  4. Review and accept the Terms and Privacy Policy.

  5. Click Register Workspace again to continue.

  6. You'll receive a confirmation email. Open it and click Verify Registration.

  7. Once verified, your workspace will be registered.

  8. To complete the process, go to Administration > Workspace > Subscriptions and click Sync License to update your workspace registration status.

Registering via token

Use this method if you've received a token from the Rocket.Chat Cloud portal, Sales, or Support.

How to get a token

  1. Log in to your Rocket.Chat Cloud account and go to Workspaces

  2. Click the Register self-managed button.

  3. When prompted, select Copy Token and Continue Online. The token will be displayed in the Continue Online with Cloud Services modal.

How to register with a token

  1. In your workspace, go to Administration > Workspace > Register workspace.

  2. Click Use Token.

  3. Paste the token and click Next to complete the registration.

  4. Once successful, a “Connected” message will confirm that your workspace is registered.

  5. To complete the process, go to Administration > Workspace > Subscriptions and click Sync License to update your workspace registration status. You may also need to refresh the workspace to update the registration status.

Alternative methods

If you prefer not to register your workspace via the UI, you can also use an environment variable to register it automatically during deployment.

  • For older versions (below v6.5): If your workspace is running a version older than 6.5, follow the legacy instructions here: Registration

  • Register via deployment environment variable: You can register your deployed workspace by adding the token as an environment variable:

    REG_TOKEN={your token here}

While this method works, we recommend using the UI-based token registration whenever possible, as it provides better feedback and validation during setup.
