Rocket.Chat rooms are where communications with other users occur. Rocket.Chat provides different room types for different collaboration purposes. To learn about the room types and various options for each, refer to the Collaborate Using Rooms section.

This guide walks you through the room administration options available in Rocket.Chat, including viewing room details, editing room settings, and deleting rooms.

To access the room administration menu, go to Manage → Workspace → Rooms. The Rooms panel displays all rooms in your workspace with the following details:

When enabled, the room is archived. Nobody can post messages in an archived room, and it no longer appears in regular searches. Admins can find archived rooms via the Directory.

Default

When enabled, the room is set as a default room that all new users join automatically.

Favorite

When enabled, the room is marked as a favorite by default for all users who join it. This option only takes effect if Default is also enabled, since it applies to the default rooms new users are automatically added to.

Featured

When enabled, the room appears at the top of the workspace Directory page. Use this to highlight important rooms that users should join.

  1. Click Save to apply the changes, or Reset to discard them.

Delete room

You can delete a room directly from the Room Information panel.

  1. In Manage → Workspace → Rooms, click the room you want to delete.

  2. At the bottom of the Room Information panel, click Delete.

  3. In the confirmation dialog, click Yes, delete it! to confirm.

By default, discussions and threads are enabled in all workspaces. If you do not want to use either, you can disable them:

  • To disable discussions, go to Manage → WorkspaceSettingsDiscussion.

  • To disable threads, go to Manage → WorkspaceSettingsThreads.
