What defines a seat?

A seat is any user with an Active or Pending status in the user panel, regardless of whether they have logged in.

The following do not count as seats:

What are the seat limits for Rocket.Chat plans?

  • Starter: Up to 50 users

  • Pro: Up to 500 users

  • Enterprise: Custom limits based on your organization’s needs

To upgrade your plan or purchase additional seats, see the Workspaces documentation.

What happens if I exceed the seat limit?

You cannot exceed your seat limit by adding new users, once the limit is reached, additional users cannot be added.

If a premium license is applied to a workspace that already exceeds its allowed number of seats, the license may not be valid until the seat count is brought within the limit.

Recommendation: To avoid service disruptions, ensure your number of seats stays within your plan’s limit.

Does Rocket.Chat have a fair use allowance policy?

Yes. Rocket.Chat applies a fair use allowance policy to ensure reliable performance and fair resource usage across workspaces.

For full details, see the Fair Use Allowance FAQ.

What if I want to purchase extra seats?

If you're on the Pro plan, you can purchase additional seats at any time.

How pricing works:

  • Prorated billing: You’re only charged for the remaining time in your current billing cycle
(for example, if you add seats halfway through the cycle, you’ll pay for half the period)

  • Estimated total: Your updated total will include all seats (existing and newly added) for the next billing cycle

If you're on an Enterprise plan or working with Sales, contact the Sales team to purchase additional seats.
