Rocket.Chat provides flexible subscription options for self-managed workspaces, allowing you to scale as your team grows or your requirements evolve. This guide explains how to upgrade or downgrade your plan and manage your subscription.
Understanding plan transitions
When you deploy a new workspace, here’s how plan transitions work:
New workspaces are automatically subscribed to the Starter plan.
If you exceed Starter limits, contact our Sales team to upgrade to a premium plan.
Cloud-hosted subscriptions cannot be managed from the Rocket.Chat Cloud portal. Contact the sales team to upgrade your workspace plans.
Upgrade your workspace plan
For self-managed workspaces, you can upgrade your subscription from the Rocket.Chat Cloud portal:
Log in to your Rocket.Chat Cloud account.
Go to Workspaces and select your workspace.
Click:
Subscribe (if you don’t have a plan), or
Manage subscription (if you already have one)
In the Manage subscription panel:
Select the number of seats you want (minimum: 51)
Click Continue and complete checkout.
After upgrading
Your subscription is activated.
You receive an invoice via email.
If you reduce seats later, the difference is credited to your account.
After upgrading, go to Manage > Workspace > Subscription in your workspace and click Sync license updates.
To purchase premium plans (Government, Defense, and Enterprise) or add-ons (e.g., Rocket.Chat Voice), contact the sales team.
Downgrade to a community workspace
To downgrade your workspace (cancel your subscription):
In your workspace, go to Manage → Workspace → Subscription.
Click Manage subscription.
Follow the steps to cancel your subscription.
Important:
Your workspace will continue using paid features until the end of your billing period.
After that, it will automatically revert to the Community plan.
For sales-managed subscriptions, the downgrade happens automatically when the contract expires (if not renewed).
Upgrade to starter from community workspace
If you're using a Community workspace, you can upgrade to the Starter plan:
From the Cloud portal
Log in to your Rocket.Chat Cloud account
Go to Workspaces
Open the menu (⋮) next to your workspace
Click Upgrade to Starter
From within your workspace
Go to Manage → Workspace → Subscription
Click Switch plan (if available)
Complete the upgrade steps
The Upgrade to Starter option will not appear if your workspace exceeds Starter plan limits.
