Rocket.Chat offers two free workspace options (Starter and Community) and three paid plans (Commercial, Government, and Defense).
The available plan-change process depends on your current plan and subscription arrangement:
Current plan | Available actions |
|---|---|
Community | Upgrade to Starter or contact Sales about a paid plan |
Starter | Downgrade to Community or contact Sales about a paid plan |
Commercial, Government, or Defense | Contact Sales to request licensing, renewal, seat, or plan changes |
Existing legacy self-service paid plan | Cancel the subscription from Cloud Portal, where the option remains available |
New self-managed workspaces are automatically provisioned with Starter. Starter is designed for technical evaluations and small, non-critical teams of up to 50 users.
Upgrade from Community to Starter
You can upgrade an eligible self-managed Community workspace to Starter through the Rocket.Chat Cloud Portal.
To upgrade:
Sign in to your Rocket.Chat Cloud account.
Select Workspaces.
Select the kebab menu (⋮) next to the Community workspace.
Select Upgrade to Starter.
Follow the displayed instructions to complete the upgrade.
The Upgrade to Starter option is unavailable when the workspace exceeds the Starter limits.
Upgrade to a paid plan
To upgrade a Starter or Community workspace to a paid plan, contact Rocket.Chat Sales.
The available paid plans are:
Commercial
Government
Defense
The Sales team will review your organization’s use case, deployment requirements, user capacity, support requirements, and applicable add-ons before recommending a plan.
Upgrading to a paid plan does not require migrating your existing workspace data
Request a paid plan from your workspace
For workspaces that display Manage subscription:
In your workspace, go to Manage → Subscription.
Select Manage subscription.
Complete the Talk to an expert form.
Submit your licensing, pricing, or plan requirements to Rocket.Chat Sales.
You can use this process to discuss:
Plan or contract changes
Additional user seats
Renewal
Cancellation
Add-ons
Licensing and procurement
Cancel an existing self-service paid subscription
Some existing customers with a legacy self-service paid subscription may still see Cancel subscription in the Rocket.Chat Cloud Portal.
To cancel an eligible subscription:
Sign in to your Rocket.Chat Cloud account.
Select Workspaces.
Select the kebab menu (⋮) next to the workspace.
Select Cancel subscription.
Review and confirm the cancellation.
After cancellation:
The workspace remains subscribed to the paid plan until the end of the current billing cycle.
Paid features remain available until the subscription ends.
At the end of the billing cycle, the workspace is downgraded to Community.
The self-managed workspace remains deployed and continues running on your infrastructure.
After the workspace is downgraded to Community, the Remove option becomes available in the Cloud Portal.
For Commercial, Government, Defense, and other sales-managed subscriptions, contact Rocket.Chat Sales to request cancellation, renewal, or plan changes.
Sync license updates
After a plan, subscription, or license change, the updated information should synchronize with your workspace.
If the updated license is not reflected automatically:
In your workspace, go to Workspace → Subscription.
Select Sync license update.
Refresh the page if necessary.
Confirm that the updated plan and license information are displayed.
The synchronization action retrieves workspace license changes from Rocket.Chat Cloud.
